Holidays at Highfield 2022

Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, it’s off to Highfield we go – for another gorgeous display of all things seasonal, designed by the brilliant Rita Pacheco, and installed with her crew of Larry, George, Isabel and Alda. The theme this year is “Home for the Holidays”. Each vignette showcases an aspect of being home for the holidays. Here’s a small sample, with ideas to adapt in your own home:

Home is where your heart sings

What makes your heart sing? Add it to a wreath.

Layers & textures

Dress your tables

Teatime in a basket

Fresh greens and berries dress the table just right

Paint the nutcracker inside a scallop shell and use at the table setting

Paint some shells, glue to ribbon, hang on a door

Dress the furniture

Wrap creatively, then layer

Festoon the tree with ribbons, after the angels and baubles

Stockings can be made out of anything, and hung anywhere

Fill an old wagon with bows, pine cones, and greens

This pampas grass is all over the Cape

Even cookie cutters and pots can be decorative. Just layer in some greens, tie some bows, and voila, a vignette!

Decorate a mantel with books turned backwards, a pincushion -and maybe Lego figures

Bet you have a step ladder to display gifts
