…the Museum on the Green, with its long history, exhibits, and charm.
On the first day of Xmas, my true love gave to me…
…the Queen’s Buyway, gateway to Main St., the village green, restaurants, shops, and the cheer of the holiday season.
Twelve Days of Xmas, 8 Nights of Hanukkah
Anyone want to join me in posting holiday photos of Falmouth for the next twelve days? Would be fun to see what everyone is seeing and is inspired by, during this most New Englandy, Cape Coddish season.
West Falmouth Library House Tour
Last Sunday I continued my December tradition of helping the West Falmouth Library during the annual house tour. This has been held now for decades; was started when the library was not part of the town or Cape-wide library system, and depended on donations and volunteers to exist. The tour has become a substantial source of funding for the library, and it’s a fun event. For me, in and out of fabulous and not -so-fabulous houses every day of the week, the fun part is not so much the houses, but the friends and acquaintances I see throughout the few hours I’m on duty.
In addition, the committee spends weeks making holiday decorations which are for sale at the library until they’re sold out. The prices are token for charming, hand made items, and there’s still a selection. Go, and help support the library while you pick up gifts and decorations for your own home!
Happy Hanukkah!
First night of the eight nights of Hanukkah, last night at the Falmouth Village green. But apparently the DPW didn’t realize last night was the first night, as the candles weren’t on – at least at 4:30 when I was there. There’s some controversy about lighting large menorahs in public spaces- it equates, at least visually, Hanukkah with Christmas. But Hanukkah is in reality a very minor holiday, and not observed in the synagogue at all. It’s more a family-home tradition. Latkes and dreidels!
