Sandy paths through the dunes beckon. Sing Patti Page’s “Old Cape Cod”, yes, it’s still here, and easy to find in September and October!
West Falmouth Library House Tour
Sunday was the most gorgeous day for this annual fund raiser. I was a docent at the new Compassionate Care ALS Center on Chase Rd. The renovation has just been completed, and it is indeed the peaceful place that the Heald family and Ron Hoffman envisioned. The intent is that it will be a place to refresh and renew for ALS patients and/or their caregivers and loved ones. It’s also available for rent to other organizations, so keep it in mind if you need a beautiful retreat for a day or more. As always, the library volunteers outdid themselves organizing this wonderful event, and kudos to the homeowners who generously opened their homes for hundreds of strangers to view!
September on the Cape
Just waiting around for another afternoon of volleyball. Maybe everyone went to Bad Martha’s?!
Monarchs Everywhere!
If you’re not here in fabulous Falmouth, or you’re here but spend all day inside, you’re missing one of the joys of this gorgeous shoulder season, monarch butterflies, flitting and flying everywhere. This one was at entrance to the beach near Green Pond. I say a little prayer every time I see one…
Paid in Scallops, Paid in Pizza
Last December I took holiday photos of a scallop fleet captain and his family, and was paid in scallops. Yesterday I gave three photos I took in the 1980’s of the iconic turreted hotel in Onset that’s graced the hill in the village since 1883 (formerly known as the Stonebridge Inn, now as the Glen Cove Restaurant and Bar) to the current owners- who also are the owners of Marc Anthony’s Pizza, the other Onset Village icon. The photos I passed along are moody, evocative and interesting, and John Salerno was over the moon to have them. I left with the best pizza this side of New York, which I was happy to share with my friends from NY. They know!
If you want to step back in time, visit Onset. Often compared to Cape May, NJ, the Victorian homes, sandy beaches, and charming vistas will charm you. Have pizza at Marc Anthony’s, or sit at the bar at Glen Cove. There’s music on the weekends in the 1883 Room. You might even see my photos!
