It’s Monarch Season!

There were four beautiful butterflies on this one small bush this morning in Woods Hole. This Butterfly Bush (Buddleia) was doing a great job. I’m seeing monarchs everywhere – hope it’s not just me.

 

 

RIP, Clam Shack

It would have been just beautiful, but today was achingly beautiful – it’s the last weekend ever for the Clam Shack on Falmouth Harbor. After 57 years, it’s closing for good. The day was as picture perfect as it gets:

 

That screen door, part of the landscape of summer for thousands of people.

 

Disposing cooking oil from the first shift.

 

I tried to time my arrival after the lunch rush but before the dinner hordes – I think they were changing the cooking oil. And taking a break?

 

My friends who used to live next door (in a $3,000,000 house) hated these vents. Although most of us like the aroma of freshly frying clams, it must have been not so nice to have it all around you all summer.

 

Maybe this is the is the iconic Clam Shack shot: eating on the deck, watching the Island Queen come and go.

 

The screen door, promising delectable fried clams just inside.

 

Just so you’ll remember…

 

Best job in town for the lucky kids who got it!

Another piece of memorabilia… It’s a vulnerable location in hurricanes.
