“The Angels of Highfield”
Twelve Days of Holidays at Highfield – Day 1
I don’t know about you, but every time I can experience something that I used to do, pre-pandemic, and can still do, it has a special “frisson” of joy. Holidays at Highfield, always a favorite, was just as stunning as always. And again, different from prior years.
I’m in awe of visual storyteller Rita Pacheco’s imagination and ability to create densely layered vignettes – so many of them – that are beautiful, different, interesting, whimsical, fun and completely engaging. This year’s theme imagined a family celebrating Christmas in their Cape house, maybe for the first time, since travel is restricted. The theme was also based on the song, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
Sadly, this event just ended today. But that doesn’t mean you can’t relive some of the magic from this year. For twelve days, starting today, I will be featuring some photos I took of this year’s work. So come back each day and enjoy the Twelve Days of Holidays at Highfield!

RIP Joe Coloumbe
When I heard that Joe Coloumbe, the founder of Trader Joe’s, had moved on to the great grocery store in the sky, I arranged a quick little homage in appreciation. This is a small part of what’s in the fridge and pantry. He’s taking good care of me! What about you?
Winter Nest
The bare landscape reveals nests that are hidden in the warmer weather. This one looks like it’s ready to be “home” again. Just another month until calendar Spring- which we all know is meaningless here on Cape Cod. Even with a warming climate.
Winter Ode to Bourne Farm
Still a beautiful and evocative place, maybe more so without people. Check it out!
