The cranberry harvest has begun! These are from the bog at Thos. Landers and Hatchville Rd.
Post-Harvest Bogs
Here’s what I jokingly call Bog Lake, the bog for a couple of days after the harvest, as the waters flow back naturally into Wing Pond. Very quiet and peaceful, unlike the roar from machinery during the few harvest days.
I’ve heard the bog manager say that the number of dogs running loose here since the lockdown, without proper cleanup, are the worst problem the bogs have had in many decades. Clean up after your pooches, dog parents! Keep our bogs safe.
Cranberry Harvest Near Bourne Farm
The cranberry bogs near Bourne Farm are among the oldest continuously operating cranberry bogs in Massachusetts. Because the bike path runs right by the bogs, they are very accessible. Harvest took place this past Sunday and Monday; here’s what it looked (and sounded) like. For a more detailed history of the bogs and nearby Bourne Farm, click here.
