Not much more appealing than the entire town turning out for the Halloween parade! Look at these adorable kids and fabulous costumes. Main Street USA!
Scarecrows and Crowesses of Falmouth Main Street
Main Street merchants went all out decorating for Halloween, with these charming stuffies and scarecrows tied and propped in front of their shops.
Which is your favorite? The one with the most votes gets bragging rights – such as they are (or should I say, humble as they are).
The first is the Black Dog.
Our newest addition to Main Street, and a personal fave. I’ve been known to take the ferry to Vineyard Haven for an hour or so at Le Roux there. You just don’t know what you absolutely need until you wander the aisles and see what there is! Welcome, Le Roux, from your #1 Falmouth fan!
This one was in the window at Le Roux.
Where else would this be but Anejo? A scarecrow with a pumpkin head and serape. And margaritas.
This little piggy is all about the #1 seller at the Pickle Jar, the PJK BBQ Pulled Pork: “House pulled pork on top of a cheddar scallion scone with house pickled red onions, BBQ sauce and smokey cheddar”.
The menu the goblin at The Quarterdeck is holding is all about spiders – roasted, fried, or sauteed.
Here’s a Port Cargo goblinette, draped in scarves and stuff from all over the world!
Eastman Hardware has added a kitchen annex. Here the hardware guy has morphed into the chef.
Even the bank has a teller goblin!
Shoes for the scarecrow family from John’s Shoe Store
Cupcake Charlie‘s sweet one
It’s a colorful Bella.
A very bookish presence at Eight Cousins
Surfer dude at Board Stiff
Bedecked and bejeweled at Treasure Chest Gifts
The Soft as a Grape guy, ready for weather, or fishing – or both!
A French dude, complete with baguettes and croissants at The Patisserie
Catch the expression on Liam‘s guy.
Not to be outdone by Frankenstein, also at Liam‘s.
One cheerful goblinette, coming up at Country Fare.
All decked out at Bear in Boots
And here’s the mascot from Bear in Boots.
Ready for any occasion at Puritan Cape Cod!
This one is by the Falmouth Library.
Ghelfi’s Candies got in on the fun with a nod to Deflategate.
Headlines Salon & Day Spa went for a hockey theme.
Last but not least, Raveis Real Estate brought out the pitchfork and horns with their “Sold” sign.

Tales from the Trenches
Celebrating! Renovation is done, just small stuff left. Can finally place furniture, unpack, and start life in my new home.
It was a long, hot summer of living in a construction site, with chaos, noise, and dust everywhere. But worth it. My tired 1994 “contemporary” is fresh and breezy.
I had the best crew on Cape Cod: John Barrett tearing down and opening walls (and building the new ones, adding trim everywhere, shingling, and and and); Dan Knowlton, who understood and accomplished a complicated plumbing plan that involved relocating a bathroom and laundry, as well as adding a second floor laundry, new heating, and all the plumbing for the new kitchen; Brian Sullivan, “The Lone Painter” par excellence; and Jeff Mower, otherwise known as Jiffy Jeff, who can and does do whatever else is needed.
The guys came to work happy, razzed each other and me every chance they got, and did outstanding work. I’m happy to recommend them, and feel fortunate they were my crew.
The first time my grandgirl Taylor watched HGTV with me, she asked me after House Hunters what happened after the people found their house. I think she was 4 or 5 at the time, so I made it simple and told her that they moved in and lived happily ever after.
That’s me – happily ever after, for as long or as short as that may be.
