The “Big Picture”
These are pottery tiles made into a mural by Tessa of Flying Pig Pottery in Woods Hole, sold as a fundraiser years ago. The mural is the welcoming entrance to the Children’s Room at the Main Library. I loved the pies flying in the sky, donated by – of course – Pie in the Sky. Still there, as is Tessa, who continues to make beautiful mugs for WCAI’s fundraisers. Thank you, Tessa!
Know what this is, where it is, why it is, and the maker?
2019 Falmouth Road Race
Here are some pictures and videos of the Falmouth Road Race from my vantage point at the finish line this morning. Cloudy and humid, but a decent breeze to begin the day. Not as great as last year’s ideal conditions, but better than some, especially the remains of a hurricane we had back in the late 80’s.
In addition to the traditions and memories that so many have around this race, it’s also a significant source of grants and donations that benefit many people. Since 2012, the Falmouth Road Race, Inc. has donated over $2 million to local youth organizations and individual scholarships.
Additionally, the charities that received bib numbers raised a record $4.9 million last year, with over $35 million raised since 2000. Think about all the non-runners who benefit in a significant way from this. Thank you, Falmouth Road Race and Tommy Leonard. We are grateful!

Love for an Old-Time Cottage
Last look at Gully Cottage before it’s taken down to make way for the owners’ beautiful new, full-time home. It’s been a wonderful beach house for 7 years for the artist owners. We gathered yesterday to acknowledge its spirit, and to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, in which tradition says that a dip in the ocean is particularly healing.
