Important film last Saturday night at the Woods Hole Film Festival, Porcelain War, about two Ukrainian artists, and how the war has changed their lives. They’re the filmmakers as well as the subject. Thrilled to see and hear them in person! See this film if you can!
Woods Hole Film Festival Gem
The reason I’m a loyal ticket holder at the WHFF is to see gems like Dear Zoe, one of last night’s presentations. (Sometimes I joke that seeing festival films is like kissing the proverbial toads before finding the handsome prince – a lot of less-than-admirable films that all seem to need editing, in a quest not to miss the occasional exquisite film.) The story is heart-rending, but it’s less about that than it is a riveting coming-of-age story, told by a brilliant cast. The relationships ring true, although with less skilled actors they could have been cliches. The acting is superb, the sound track refreshingly appropriate and not manipulative – and don’t miss the credits! They’re so imaginative, and so right for this film. Find this film, see it, you won’t be sorry! It is coming out on various video on demand platforms Nov 4th, I hear.
Wildflower entrance at Falmouth Academy
Had to stop and admire on my way to see encore presentation of “Runner” at the Woods Hole Film Festival. Outstanding film, lovely setting, perfect summer late afternoon in fabulous Falmouth!
Woods Hole Film Festival
The Film Festival concluded last night during torrential rain. But the rest of the week was buzzy and fun, going from film to film, and as always, hearing from various of the makers and actors. I don’t know if it was just what I chose, but there were a lot of films about life-and-death struggles of various kinds, all intense. An interesting week in Woods Hole!
The Woods Hole Film Festival
Tonight was the world premiere of the slasher film “Off Season”. The audience seemed to be mostly cast, crew and their families and friends, because every time my eyes were shut tight when the suspense was high, everyone around me was hooting, hollering and applauding. This is one of the great things about the festival – it’s up close and personal, for sure!
This year Casa Nadine is temporary home for a few filmmakers and staff. It’s a pleasure to get to know these interesting dynamic people, and it adds a dimension to their work that I like a lot.
Get thee to the Woods Hole Film Festival for a refreshing and totally fun film experience!
